We’ve just arrived back from a hugely successful few days at Scotland’s Trade Fair in Glasgow – and we’re still buzzing from it.
For anyone who’s not familiar with how trade fairs work, they’re large industry events where independent retailers from across the UK come together to discover new brands, place orders, and plan what they’ll be stocking in their shops for the months ahead. For us, it’s one of the most important dates in the calendar – a chance to catch up with our existing stockists, meet new shop owners, and showcase the latest Capricorn Mohair Socks range in person.
A Stand Full of Colour (and Conversation)
This year’s stand really came into its own. The clean, fresh layout and bright, vibrant sock colours stopped plenty of people in their tracks, and it sparked a lot of lovely conversations about mohair, UK manufacturing, and what makes our socks different.
One of the nicest things about shows like this is that people get to touch and feel the socks properly – not just see them on a screen. Time and again we heard comments like “I didn’t realise how soft they were” and “These feel far more breathable than I expected.” That hands-on moment is exactly why trade fairs still matter, even in an online world.
Because this is a yearly event, it also gave us the perfect chance to showcase our two newest styles to many of our existing retailers. Our Skye Socks and new Bed Socks attracted lots of interest and were extremely well received.
Catching Up With Our Retailers
A big highlight was seeing so many of our existing stockists in person. We now work with over 70 independent retailers across the UK and further afield, and Scotland’s Trade Fair gave us a chance to put faces to names, hear what’s selling well in their shops, and talk through what customers are asking for on the ground.
Those conversations are gold dust for us. They directly shape the colours we introduce, the styles we develop, and how we support shops with displays and point-of-sale materials.
If you’re curious where you can buy Capricorn Mohair Socks locally, you can find a full list of our stockists here.
Welcoming New Stockists to the Fold
Just as exciting was meeting a raft of new independent retailers who want to start stocking Capricorn Mohair Socks. From gift shops and farm shops to outdoor stores and lifestyle boutiques, we had strong interest from businesses all over the UK.
A lot of them were particularly drawn to three things:
- Our UK manufacturing (made in Leicester, dyed in Leeds). You can find out how we knit our socks here.
- The natural performance of mohair (warmth, breathability, odour resistance). You can watch all the FAQ's we get asked about our socks here.
- The strong colour range that works equally well for gifting and everyday wear
Over the coming weeks, you’ll start seeing Capricorn Mohair Socks popping up in even more high streets and visitor destinations – which is something we’re genuinely proud of.
A Little Favour to Ask…
If you’re a Capricorn customer reading this and you have a favourite local independent shop that you think would be a great fit for our socks, we’d love to hear about them. A surprising number of our best retail partnerships have come from customer recommendations.
Just drop us a quick email with the shop name and location, and we’ll take it from there. If you can mention the socks to the retailer themselves before you contact us that would really help.
Thank You
Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who visited us at the show – whether you’re a long-standing stockist, a brand-new retailer, or someone who simply stopped for a chat and a feel of the socks.
Events like Scotland’s Trade Fair remind us why we love what we do. They’re about real conversations, independent businesses supporting each other, and getting quality UK-made products into the hands (and onto the feet) of more people.
Here’s to an exciting year ahead.
