Many people refer to mohair socks as goat socks because they are made from the luxurious fleece of Angora goats. These goats produce a soft, durable, and moisture-wicking fibre that is perfect for high-performance socks.
How Goat Socks Are Made
Angora goats are sheared twice a year, in spring and autumn. Their raw fleece is then cleaned, spun into yarn, and transformed into Capricorn Mohair Socks. This process ensures that each pair of socks offers the natural benefits of mohair, including breathability, warmth, and durability.
The Knitting Process
At Capricorn Mohair Socks, we knit everything in its natural colour before dyeing the complete sock. This traditional method helps maintain the fibre’s moisture-wicking properties, ensuring your feet stay dry and comfortable.
-
Washing & Spinning – The raw fleece is washed and spun into high-quality yarn.
-
Knitting – Our UK knitters create the socks in an open-tube form using advanced circular knitting machines.
-
Toe Closure – The sock toe is seamlessly closed using the same mohair yarn, ensuring a smooth and comfortable fit.
-
Final Wash & Drying – The socks undergo a final water-only wash to remove oils and stabilise the fibres without using harsh detergents.
-
Boarding & Pressing – Each sock is placed on a metal foot form, shaped, and steam-pressed for a perfect fit.
-
Pairing & Quality Control – As artisan-made goat socks, slight variations in size can occur. Our team carefully pairs and inspects each set before packaging and dispatching them to ensure consistent quality. We check each pair of socks carefully. We inspect, package, and send them to you. This way, we can then ensure everything is perfect before they arrive through your door.
We make Goat Socks for the UK market, focusing on high quality and great attention to detail and we very much hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
