Jon, has just completed the 160-mile Spine Challenger North.
Of course, he wore Capricorn Mohair Socks for the event.
In this video, he takes us through his sock choice for the ultra-event, it sounds like he made the right choice. He also discusses the benefits of wearing brand-new socks and how often these got changed during the ultra-event.
What are the best socks for an Ultra event, such as the Spine Race?
To find a natural UK-made sock that was so kind to your feet over an Ultra event was a true renovation.
With Mohair being a straight fibre with natural wicking properties, it makes for the ideal natural fibre for ultra events and with these being made in the UK what else can you ask for?
Jon said after completing the Spine Challenge North -
Well, I did it - 160 miles in 86 hours and 12 min, along the Nothern section of the Pennine Way.
Firstly a massive thank you for all the sponsorship and sent messages during the race, the messages flashing up on my watch kept me smiling/ motivated.
It was truly the hardest thing I have ever done, the lack of sleep was the killer (2 hours in total at x 2 checkpoints - 1 at each), 2 x 0.5 hour naps in my Bivvy bag on the trail then x 6 mini power naps (no more than 8 mins each), literally lying down on the trail with my rucksack on. The constant pressure to keep going, no time to work problems out, just pushing on trying to motivate yourself to eat with no appetite, as the body just screamed to stop.
I met and walked with some amazing people and sadly some dropped out on route, some emotional goodbyes before putting one front in front of the other again and heading on.
Wet feet were the norm, change your shoes, and socks and 30 minutes later water flowed over the top of your trainers soaking your feet again. But I could not fault my Capricorn Mohair Socks, they exceeded all expectations.
Too many highs and lows to list, overtime as everything sinks in these will be easier to segregate from everything that went on over those 86 hours.
You don’t do anything like this without sacrifice and the massive support of your family in the build-up then seeing them all at the finish line was amazing.
Thank you to everybody, hope you enjoyed the ‘dot watching’!
