This Black Friday weekend, Capricorn Mohair Socks is doing something that truly matters.
From Friday 28th November to Monday 1st December, when you buy 2 pairs of Capricorn Mohair Socks, we’ll donate 1 pair to The People’s Kitchen in Newcastle — helping someone less fortunate stay warm this winter.
We ran this same initiative last year and were overwhelmed by the response from our customers. The socks we donated - more than 75 pairs - went directly to people in real need, offering comfort and warmth during some of the coldest nights of the year.
This year, we’re proud to do it again.
Watch the short video below as Jon from Capricorn Mohair Socks chats with Morris, a long-standing volunteer at The People’s Kitchen, to hear more about how your support really makes a difference.
How a Simple Pair of Socks Can Change a Night
Morris has volunteered at The People’s Kitchen for eight years, helping to serve food, hand out clothing, and offer friendship to hundreds of people each week. As he explains in the video, warm socks are one of the most requested items they receive — something many of us take for granted, but which means so much to someone living on the streets.
“I’ve never done a shift where someone hasn’t asked me for socks,” Morris says “When you’re on the streets and your feet are freezing, there’s nothing worse. Last year, when we gave out the Capricorn socks, people put them on straight away. They were so grateful — you could tell it made a real difference.”
The People’s Kitchen: Friendship, Food, and Hope
Based in Newcastle upon Tyne, The People’s Kitchen offers warmth, food, and companionship to people who are homeless, struggling, or simply lonely. Every week, hundreds of people come through the doors — not just for a meal, but for human contact, safety, and care.
Morris shares that the charity now supports around 160 people a night, with an increasing number of younger people and women coming through its doors — a stark reflection of the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
“We rely completely on donations and volunteers,” he explains. “None of us are paid — there are 300 volunteers who make it happen. And every bit of help, every pair of socks, genuinely counts.”
Why Capricorn Mohair Socks Chose to Give Back
As a small, UK-based business rooted in Northumberland, we’re proud to make our socks in Britain and to use our platform to support our wider community.
“With the cost-of-living crisis, it’s more important than ever to help those who really need it,” says Jon Monks, Managing Director of Capricorn Mohair Socks.
“We’re not just selling socks this Black Friday - we’re sharing warmth.”
Each pair donated is one more person walking through a freezing Newcastle night with dry, warm feet — something that no one should go without.
